姉妹都市グレシャム市から高校生を受け入れました。 Gresham High School Students Visit Ebetsu
グレシャム高校2年 スロン・エスラさん レイノルズ高校3年 マリオ・エストラダ・ペナさん Sloane Esler, Gresham High School Junior, and Mario Estrada Pena, Reynolds High School Senior
6月29日から7月22日まで、アメリカ合衆国オレゴン州グレシャム市にあるグレシャム高校2年生のスロン・エスラさんと、レイノルズ高校3年生のマリオ・エストラダ・ペナさんが、姉妹都市相互派遣事業の参加者として来江しました。2人はホームステイをしながら、スロンさんがとわの森三愛高校、マリオさんが立命館慶祥高校にそれぞれ通い、日本の生活や文化を体験しました。
7月16日にこの事業を主催する江別市都市提携委員会（事務局：教育委員会生涯学習課）の案内で、2人は江別市長を表敬訪問し、江別で体験したことについて話しました。その後、昼食には、江別産小麦で作ったうどんをとても美味しく食べました。昼食後には市内見学をしました。江別神社、郷土資料館、旧町村農場などを興味津々に見学しました。
ホストファミリーと学校のご協力により、この3週間、スロンさんとマリオさんは、とても充実した日々を過ごしました。
姉妹都市相互派遣事業は、昭和53年（1978年）から開始し、現在まで71人を受入れ、98人を派遣しています。

Sloane Esler, a junior at Gresham High School, and Mario Estrada Pena, a recent graduate of Reynolds High School, took part in the Sister City High School Student Exchange Program from June 29 to July 22. The students stayed with local host families and attended local high schools for the duration of the program. Sloane attended Towa no Mori Sanai High School, and Mario attended Ritsumeikan Keisho High School. Through this program, they were able to experience Japanese culture and everyday life.
On July 16, the two students had a meeting with the mayor of Ebetsu where they talked about their positive experiences in Ebetsu. After the meeting, the students enjoyed a delicious lunch of udon made with Ebetsu wheat flour. After that, the students went on a tour of the city organized by the Ebetsu Sister City Committee. They visited Ebetsu Shrine, the Local History Museum, and the Old Machimura Farm. They were very interested in the history and culture of the area.
Thanks to the cooperation of their schools and the hospitality of their host families, Sloane and Mario spent a very fulfilling three weeks here!
The Sister City High School Student Exchange Program has hosted 71 participants in Ebetsu and has sent 98 participants to Gresham since its start in 1978.
