姉妹都市グレシャム市から高校生を受け入れました。 Gresham High School Students Visit Ebetsu

グレシャム高校　2年生　ジョスリン・サラミさんとルセレナ・アンヘ・メルカドさん　 Jocelyn Salami and Luzelena Angel-Mercado, Gresham High School Juniors

　6月30日から7月22日まで、アメリカ合衆国オレゴン州グレシャム市にあるグレシャム高校2年ジョスリン・サラミさんと同校2年ルセレナ・アンヘ・メルカドさんが姉妹都市相互派遣事業の参加者として来江しました。2人はホームステイをしながら、ジョスリンさんが大麻高校、ルセレナさんが野幌高校に通い、日本の生活や文化を体験しました。

　7月7日にこの事業を主催する江別市都市提携員会（事務局：教育委員会生涯学習課）の案内で、2人は江別市長を表敬訪問し、江別で体験したいことについて話しました。それから、市内見学をしました。江別神社、町村農場ミルクガーデンなどを興味津々に見学しました。ぶんぶんゴマ作りにも挑戦しました。そして、昼食は、ラーメンをとても美味しく食べました。

　ホストファミリーと学校のご協力により、この3週間ジョスリンさんとルセレナさんは、とても充実した日々を過ごしました。

　姉妹都市相互派遣事業は、昭和53年（1978）年から開始し、現在まで69人を受入れ、96人を派遣をしています。

Jocelyn Salami and Luzelena Angel-Mercado, both juniors at Gresham High School, took part in the Sister City High School Student Exchange Program from June 30 until July 22. The students stayed with local host families and attended local high schools for the duration of the program. Jocelyn attended Oasa High School, and Luzelena attended Nopporo High School. Through this program, they were able to experience Japanese culture and everyday life.

On July 7, the two students had a meeting with the mayor of Ebetsu. They talked about what they would like to experience while in Ebetsu. After the meeting, the students went on a tour of the city organized by the Ebetsu Sister City Committee. They visited Ebetsu Shrine and the Machimura Farm Milk Garden, and were very interested in the history and culture of the area. They made traditional Japanese spinning toys called bunbun goma. For lunch, they enjoyed ramen made with Ebetsu wheat flour.

Thanks to the cooperation from their schools and the hospitality of their host families, Jocelyn and Luzelena spent a very fulfilling three weeks here!

The Sister City High School Student Exchange Program has hosted 69 participants in Ebetsu and has sent 96 participants to Gresham since its start in 1978.
