こんにちは。国際交流員の佐藤クリスタルです。
11月と12月に私と国際交流担当の生涯学習課職員が姉妹都市のアメリカ合衆国オレゴン州グレシャム市にあるマウントフッド・コミュニティ・カレッジと江別市にある札幌学院大学のオンライン交流会に参加しました。12月2日に行った交流会の参加人数は、マウントフッド・コミュニティ・カレッジの学生7人と先生1人、札幌学院大学の学生2人と先生1人、私と生涯学習課職員で、合計13人でした。
マウントフッド・コミュニティ・カレッジと札幌学院大学は2019年2月15日から姉妹校の提携をしており、2020年から毎月オンライン交流会を行っています。11月の交流会に初めて参加させていただきましたが、マウントフッド・コミュニティ・カレッジの学生がスパニッシュライス、タコス、オムレツなどのよく作る料理を日本語で発表しました。学生たちが日本語で一生懸命頑張っている様子に感動し、私が大学で日本語を勉強し始めた頃を懐かしく思いました。12月の交流会では、札幌学院大学の学生がお雑煮と卵かけご飯を英語で紹介しました。グレシャム市にいる学生たちはかまぼこや納豆などの日本の独特の食材について興味津々でたくさんの質問をしていました。そして、日本とアメリカの年末年始についてお互いに紹介し、語り合いました。
大学生同士のオンライン交流会はとても楽しく、それぞれが異文化に対する理解を深める有意義な時間でした。今後も参加させていただき、学生同士の交流を通して、これからの国際交流のあり方を考えていきたいと思います。
Hello everyone! This is Krystal Sato, Ebetsu City Coordinator for International Relations.
A city employee in charge of international exchange from the Lifelong Learning Division and I participated in online exchange sessions held in November and December between Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon and Sapporo Gakuin University in Ebetsu. There were 13 participants in the online exchange on December 2: 7 students and 1 teacher from Mount Hood Community College, 2 students and 1 teacher from Sapporo Gakuin University, a city employee, and me.
Mount Hood Community College and Sapporo Gakuin University have been sister schools since February 15, 2019, and the schools have been conducting online exchange monthly since 2020. November's online exchange session was my first time participating. Mount Hood Community College students introduced food they often make in Japanese, such as Spanish rice, tacos, and omelets. I was impressed to see how hard the students were trying to explain their recipes in Japanese, and their effort reminded me of when I was a college student beginning to study Japanese. During December's exchange session, students from Sapporo Gakuin University introduced two traditional Japanese recipes: New Year's soup called ozoni, and an easy Japanese breakfast food called tamago kake gohan. The students in Gresham were fascinated by uniquely Japanese ingredients such as kamaboko and natto and asked many questions about them. Also, the students told each other about year-end holiday customs in Japan and America.
The online exchange was a very fun and meaningful experience for all of the participants. It was a great opportunity for everyone to deepen their understanding of foreign cultures. Participating in online exchange with students gives me valuable insight on how to conduct further international exchange, so I would like to join the exchange session again in the future.
