６月１６日（木）に「すぽっとケア」を訪問しました。「すぽっとケア」とは、江別市教育委員会が学校に行きたくても行けない子どものために、悩みや不安の解消、心の居場所づくり等を目的として設置している適応指導教室です。小学生、中学生、保護者、ボランティアを合せて、１２人が二つの英語のゲームに参加しました。

一つ目のゲームは、英語の「しりとり」でした。ルールは日本語のしりとりと同じですが、今回はホワイトボードを使い、順番に英単語を一生懸命書きました。二つ目のゲームは、“Hot Seat”（ホット・シート）というゲームでした。英語でhot seatというのは、直訳すると「熱い席」という意味ですが、熟語としての意味は、「難しい立場」です。ルールは、二つのチームに分かれて、それぞれのチームの代表が黒板の前にある二つの席に座ります。黒板が見えないように、黒板を背にして、チームのメンバーに向かって座ります。チームのメンバーが見えるように、私が黒板に大きく英単語を書きます。その後、チームのメンバーが前に座っている代表者に何が書かれているかについてヒントを与えます。黒板に書かれた英単語を早く当てた代表がチームのために点数をもらえます。皆さんはとても積極的にヒントを出し、その発想力に感動しました。楽しく英語で遊ぶことができました。

ゲーム終了後に、質問タイムを開きました。少し緊張感がなくなった生徒たちがどんどん私のことについて質問し、愉快な交流時間が過ごせて良かったと思います。

毎月１回すぽっとケアに遊びに行く予定です。

On Thursday, June 16, I visited “Spot Care.” “Spot Care” is a class held by the Ebetsu City Board of Education in order to relieve anxieties and create a place where children who cannot attend school can feel they belong. Twelve participants, including elementary and junior high school students, parents, and volunteers, played two games together.

The first game was English Shiritori. The rules were the same as the Japanese word game, and the students used small white boards to play. Students took turns writing English words that started with the last letter of the previous word (for example: cat, tree, egg, gorilla, etc.) The second game was a game called “Hot Seat.” In this game, the students were split into two teams, and one person from each team sat at the front of the class, facing away from the blackboard and towards their team members. Then, I wrote an English word on the blackboard large enough for all the team members to see. The team members had to give the two students sitting in the front hints about what was written on the blackboard, and the first of the two students to correctly guess the word got a point for their team. I was impressed by how creative everyone’s hints were! We had a great time playing games in English.

After the games finished, it was Q&A time. No longer shy or nervous, the students asked me lots of questions. We all had a very pleasant time getting to know each other.

I plan on visiting Spot Care once a month.
